I saw this on someone else’s Tumblr and it was someone I don’t actually follow. I saved it because it’s a photo of the famous Moulin Rouge in Paris, in the Montmartre district, I believe. Long before Baz Luhrmann’s film of the same name, I was a musicology major at my university. Before I got sick, I was writing an honours thesis about a particular singer-songwriter called Aristide Bruant - a bit like Ewan McGregor’s character in Luhrmann’s film. Even today, I can’t bear to throw out my research. Who knows, one day, I might just write the thesis for fun. As I’ve said before, I really love artistic Euro and Anglo-modernism and 19th/20th-century fin-de-siecle history.
